Best German bands of all time

Germany is well known for being the center of great musical culture, and they have seen many successful bands come from their country. From all sorts of genres and types there have been great bands to come from Germany, here are a few of the most well known ones.

CAN

Seen as one of the first bands to play rock, Can changed the idea behind it all, simply because they had such far reaching goals and ideas. Their basis might have been electronic music, but into this they added sounds of jazz, hard rock, world music and even funk. All brought to you  with an eye for the appeal of the avant-garde. What helped them to remain steadfastly individual was that much of their output was created spontaneously. Their albums featured what were termed ‘instant compositions’. Just how well this could work comes through best on Tago Mago and Future Days.

RAMMSTEIN

Many say that only bands that sing in English will see success in the music world. But this small band from Berlin quickly changed that idea. They proudly write and sing in German and they have taken over the world doing so. They are said to be amazing while performing live, and they have toured all over performing, and people will sing along, in German.

RAMMSTEIN

ELETRIC SUN

This band was founded by Uli Jon Roth after he left the band the Scorpionsin 1978. He said that he wanted to purse a sound of music that was more in touch with his soul. He used his love for Hendrix and gave the band a more spiritual sound and feeling. He also had great discipline when it came to the bands writing of new music. They say great success all around the world with their new sound and new ideas on music.

TANGERINE DREAM

They have been said to have changed the limits of the electronic music that is seen in the rock scene these days. They were the front and center of the Krautrock movement and they have a long history to go along with it. They have toured through many cities and countries and brought this new sound to the masses. They are most definitely one of the most popular German bands.

LUCIFER’S FRIEND

While the lead singing of the band is an English man, John Lawton, they are still a very German band. They have combined the sounds of jazz and hard rock, to defy all odds and bring you a great sounds that is easy and enjoyable to listen to. They first released albums in the 70’s and each album was so different to the others that their listeners loved them earn more. They grew to great popularity both in Germany and in other countries.

Thera are of course many other great bands that have come from the country of Germany and in all different genres as well. Some saw more success than others and some sang in English while others in German. But no on can deny that there have been many great musical acts to have come from the great country of Germany
